MORE ABOUT US
Thank you for your interest in learning more about Estate Transition Services LLC.

Nancy is a proud mom to two grown children, and lives with her husband, dogs, cats, and fish in a country neighborhood outside of Belleville, Illinois.

In her free time, Nancy enjoys being in nature with her Chesapeake Bay retriever rescue dogs, fresh floral design, cooking, listening to live music, taking road trips, and spending precious time with treasured friends and family.

Estate Transition Services LLC was founded by Nancy Berger. In her years of working as a paralegal in law offices in both Illinois and Missouri, Nancy was honored to walk beside amazing attorneys who did important work and who each day made a difference. In this process, Nancy was privileged to have extensive client interactions and especially appreciated getting to connect with clients, walking beside them as they worked through with the attorney the often-difficult, weighty and emotional work of estate planning.

Nancy would often get asked for contacts who could help with various estate transition tasks that, while they fell well outside the scope of a law office, they did not really fall into the scope of any other office either.

These requests for help would originate from both the client(s), or often from loved ones who were unable to help perhaps because they were limited physically, busy with work and the demands of their own responsibilities, or lived out of the area, among others, for a "personal assistant" or extra set of hands to step in and help.

Requests for help were varied, including but not limited to:
-
Organizing, packing, unpacking and facilitating a move to permanent residency in a more temperate climate, relocation to be closer to family and friends, to a smaller, more manageable home, or to an assisted living or nursing care facility.
-
Preparing and facilitating the administration of all remaining property, including personal possessions, real estate including primary residence and vacation homes, and all other personal property.
-
Attending attorney meetings to be an extra ear, taking good notes, asking pertinent questions, and remaining mindful of timelines for completion of their engagement.
-
Assisting with tedious post-execution estate planning funding documents.
-
Serving as agent or personal representative in estate planning documents.
-
Facilitating the clean out of a residence, including hoard or other mitigating factors.
-
Assisting in funeral and other memorial services and arrangements.
-
Helping with estate administration work following the loss of a loved one.
-
Working with an assisted living or nursing home facility for clean out and closing after death.
-
Completing in-home notarial work and paralegal work.

The lack of available help would often leave clients feeling overwhelmed, "stuck" physically, mentally and emotionally, unable or unwilling to take whatever next steps.
Nancy felt a draw to do more, to connect with clients on a different level, and to offer support when it was needed the most.

Estate Transition Services LLC was formed to fill this gap and serve as a point of contact on behalf of clients.

"This is dedicated to my mom Dorothy who I lost in 2003, and who I still miss every single day of my life. If you are still blessed to have your mom, trust me you will miss obscure details. Listen to the tone of her voice. Watch her face crinkle when she laughs. Smell her. Trace the texture of the skin on her hands. Talk. Go through her childhood pictures and yours. Listen. Ask questions. Go over recipes and learn the tricks that she does without thinking - but that makes all the difference in the dish.
I am grateful to God I had a mom who was funny, supportive, loving and kind. She was my best friend.
And I am blessed beyond measure to be a mom myself, to my own incredible daughter who is my best friend."
"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." ~A.A. Milne
